As we make new advances in science, we learn that we know less than we previously thought. While often times technology can be dangerous to the environment, it is also helping to save the planet. If we look at history, we know that we really don't know if the new advancements in clean energy will cause other problems or not. Maybe solar will cause for some creature to go extinct for some bizarre reason... We won't know until it happens. It would be great if wind energy and solar energy have no negative effects on the environment, but they might.
Technology is dangerous, but it can do good as well as bad. If it wasn't for technological advancements, we would not have realized the problems that greenhouse gases are causing. We are able to figure out problems, and fix them using technology. If we hadn't had devices to monitor our environment, we wouldn't know that there was a problem until it was too late. While we might not always use technology to make the best solutions to our problems, the fact that we can find the problems makes technology worth trusting.
I don't know if I am making sense here, or if you can understand what I am getting at, but let me know, and tell me what you think
I understand what you are saying but I think an important part of technology is the moral part of putting technology into practice. We need to try, with the best of our abilities, to find if our new technologies will cause harm and if we find nothing, then we should put it into practice. It is unfortunate if in the long run, these technologies cause problems but as humans, we all make mistakes. I think the atomic bomb is not such a great example of technology simply because it was created to make harm, not created to benefit society as most technology is.
ReplyDeleteIn some way, I wish that humans lived in a simpler world, free of technology, but unfortunately that is not the case. Humans have become accustomed to a certain way of living. While I would encourage many people to live with less, there are certain people in our society who feel that possessions and an easy lifestyle are more important. Therefore, technological advances are never going to stop in our culture. The most we can do is try to make sure that these technologies won't cause harm and hope for the best.
On another note, I would just like to point out that recently, many technologies have been improving because they are being created to flow with nature, instead of against nature. This has proven in the recent past to be very beneficial as often these technologies do cause less harm. If technologies continue to be inspired by nature, with nature, and to help nature, then I think our current technological advancements are on the right path.
