Using technology to fix technology

Society is always excited about new technology, especially techniques of building buildings and cities, therefore the world expanded very quickly. This is not a good thing. People lost site of what is truly important, the environment, and only focused on domination of land. We are losing land to non-responsible practices of building, which pollutes the Earth. Now, we are realizing our mistakes and trying to improve the landscape with more sustainable practices. We need to use new technology to fix the damages of old technology. Engineers, architects, and landscape architects are a few professionals dedicated to looking for sustainable practices of building and producing energy. Buildings can now be considered sustainable through a registration process called LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design). Luckily, we are now realizing the damage a building can cause to the land. Those who have little compassion for the environment (i.e. some developers) are destroying the Earth with technology.

It is very ironic how we are using the technology to fix the damage itself created. But more importantly, it is taking human compassion, something you can never receive from technology, to understand and fix the damage. Humans understand nature and are trying to improve the landscape. We need humans to design beautiful places that are conscious of the environment. As humans, we need use technology in responsible ways.

  1. I believe that it’s amazing that people have begun to notice the damages we have done to our surroundings. My old high school was renovating, and there were plans to knock down an old building and replace it with a new, LEED certified building. I was in a club that dealt with construction so we got to sit in a lot of meetings about the building. It’s really interesting how they incorporate new and old technologies to make the building pass. One of the more interesting things there were planning on doing was to make a large garden on the roof. This would work as a classroom, and also to keep the building cool in the hotter months.
