Internet crash?

Talking about technology always makes me think of what would happen if the internet crashed. I know it sounds more like a movie idea but how would our world react to it. Not that long ago the internet didn't exist and now I feel like it runs our lives. Even people who do not have the internet are still affected by it everyday. Are we taking advantage of what technology does for us. Ever since reading the articles and listening to other talk about technology philosophically I've been able to notice things in conversations with people. Just yesterday I was talking with a couple friends, two of with do not have a Facebook, were being invited to an event and were told all the details would be on Facebook. When they told the kid they didn't have one and that he should just call them he literally did not know what to do. Instead of just getting their number and calling them, he took their emails. Hearing that story from them made me think that we rely on the internet and technology way too much for our own good. It makes life in one way so much simpler but not in a simple way. I feel like the internet is still so new to us that we do not know the effects that it will bring in the future.

On a kind of different note, I came across this article today. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this. I know it was brought up in class on Tuesday.

  1. If the internet did crash, people could survive without it, but it would create mass panic and ultimately chaos. Since people rely so much on the internet, businesses would loses substantial amounts of money, while people at home will feel as though they are all alone. Of course this is the effect when people transition to having their life go from a 1950's style lifestyle in which everyone is active int their community to a internet crazed life. As far as the technological article you improve let me leave you with a quote an ex-government official said "thing about the most advanced piece of technology out there. That is like a pocket calculator compared to what the government has".
